Identification: Mellow Yellow

    A slime mould of some sort. Very nice!

    I guess you had a wet weather lately, right? :D

    I think it's a slime mold, Fuligo septica (also known as dog vomit slime mold).
    It's totally harmless (not recommended to eat as it may not taste so good, though :p)
    and converts carbon polymers such as cellulose and lignine to plant-friendly carbon compounds less polymerized as so absorbable.

    Funny thing is Fungi, we're having a severe drought here. I've not had rain for mounths.

    Slime molds aren't really fungi but...yes, somewhat close :)
    You're having drought but the pic clearly shows that
    it's quite wet and there is some moss too! Fungi can't grow without water

    It's bone dry. What looks wet, is really very dry and hard. Even the moss is brittle.
    It must have grown back when it was wet, then dried and hardened.

    I think that your slime mold is in the "crust" stage, so
    ready to sporulate.
    try to place a little bit of this on a rotten log and wet it...you may
    get some more slime mold, interesting things to play around :D
