We have a medlar tree in our backyard loaded with fruit. I’ve read about the process of bletting and processing - and have found recommendations for when to harvest in the UK (late October, early November). Anyone know if the harvest timing is similar for Vancouver?
Harvest time is the same; fruit will naturally blet and feel soft if left on the tree....and it does taste like apple sauce (I actually made a medlar jam a few years ago and it was very tasty) The fruit in this image is ripening but not yet ready. Fruit picked when firm will not blet, it will just shrivel and eventually rot.
