We were brought a slip of this flower where it was growing in a garden in Walton-on-Thames, SW of London, England. The flower is very Meconopsis-like but the leaves don't resemble any Meconopsis I've ever seen. The garden zone here is 8, verging on 9. Is anyone familiar with this flower? Don, traveling in England
Looks like Silver Surfer and I posted simultaneously, and seems Abutilon vitifolium wins the day. You can probably grow this one in Surrey: I was just out looking at mine, which began flowering today, a 7 year old seedling that's now about 9' tall. Just needs a bit of a sheltered spot. Be aware if you try it from seed (easy to germinate) that seedlings vary between blue and white flowers. After six years of waiting/hoping for blue or mauve flowers, I ended up with white-- Blue flowered specimens might be available at local specialty nurseries around Vancouver, though.
Thanks to the both of you. We have compared the plant cuttings with internet pictures and it appears you are right about its being Abutilon. My sister (who we are visiting in England) has taken the cutting and put it in potting soil in their conservatory, and is hoping to gain a healthy plant out of it.
