I got some houseplants and I'm new on the UBC forums, I'm from usa MN. so far i have a varigated ficus elastica tricolor that's not to big yet, brought it at wagners for around $6, a calathea hybrid on a peble tray, and a couple philodendron hybrids, plus a zz plant, snake plant and crown of thorns

My bedroom which is where i have the plants- I have two pet cats ( Bindi and Leopalorn.) that have the run of the house and don't want them damaging or getting sick from the plants so i barcade my room from them. is sorta small so i plan on getting a low strung table- one of those make it yourself projects. to make over the summer and have ready to place in my room, once i get a laptop and move some stuf out of the way. For light i use an artifical grow bulb as a house blocks my window which is north.

hello and welcome! A tip for the cats: get a bottle of bitter apple spray and spray down the leaves, if they do happen to get at the plants, they won't eat it.
    Happy growing!

i know that, thanks for the tip though. my calathea is doing better than I thought, must be either giving it the right condictions or its just hardy. it is a hybrid though and not a species maybe that makes the difference. i watered my ficus elastica tricolor, its soil was hard and dry so i lightened it up with a fork and gave it a good drink. i know that if it gets too much it will lose leaves though.

the crown of thorns isn't doing so good all its leaves are turning yellow or drying up from lack of water.
