Hello. I got a few maypop seeds recently and I'm not sure how to germinate them. Right now I'm trying to germinate one using bottom heat. I've read you are supposed to cold stratify them. Is that true? I understand they can take a while to germinate. Any help is appreciated.

    Cucurbits,
I have never grown a maypop before, but i read somewhere that putting high heat on the seeds/seedlings will speed up germination. I don't think they need cold stratification, but I am not sure.

I checked it just a few hours ago and there was a little sprout in the pot! It only took 2 weeks.

Great, I'd love to hear about how your maypops are doing ever other week or something like that! :)

Right now the maypop has opened the seed leaves and is a bit leggy because there hasn't been much sun out the past week.

Edit: I can just barely see the tip of the first true leaf coming out.

2 week update: Hasn't grown much since last week but its getting a lot more light so the growth should be taking off soon.

The maypop has grown a lot more this past week. It now has two true leaves on it.

I'm going to have to re-pot it soon. It's got three true leaves now.

The maypop has suffered a major setback after getting too much sun. Hopefully I have learned my lesson. :(
