Hi, What's the mature size of 'Acer palmatum 'Goshiki Kotohime'? I have a 6 ft space to plant an Acer and I'm wondering if it's wide enough. Thanks.

Hi SLR2009, tbh it depends on the size of the tree you buy, how long you are going to be in that house. JM's can be pruned and shaped to fit almost any size garden. You can make them the size you want. I have several 30 to 40 year old JM's and all our kept to the size I want. BTW Goshiki Kotohime is a lovely tree. Go for it!!!

    J. D. Vertrees with Peter Gregory, Timber Press Pocket Guide to Japanese Maples (2007, Timber Press, Portland) gives under 3 ft. as a representative mature height.

Quite slow growing so with 6' to fill you are good for couple of decades before you'll have to prune.

It is an interesting plant and well worth having. See my website here Image

6' is plenty of space for this cultivar IMO. It grows so slow it would be very easy to keep at that size even after many years. It is a very nice plant.
