Three years ago I built a Mason bee "nest" block of 2X6s with holes drilled in. Several bees layed their eggs and plugged up holes with mud. This spring there were small holes in the mud where bees got out.
There are some holes with straw in them. Some pieces of sraw are 6 inches long. After one year I removed straw and cleaned out holes. Something plugged up a few holes with straw again.

Can anyone tell me what is plugging hoes with straw?

that said - how do i rejuvenate my mason bee "nest" that the house painter (who I thought would know better) has just put a couple of coats of thick paint all over?!

i dread to think what the bees ... if any in the little houses --- thought. (or suffered)
