  1. I was hosing my Blue spruce and noticed that next to the trunk, branches are bleaching out. Is there something sucking the life out of these branches or is that normal..

Old needles die and drop in late summer or autumn. However, out here on the coast the climate is too mild to kill off sucking pests like mites and spruce aphids in winter, so these are prevalent on Colorado spruce in this region. Look closely for signs of mite or aphid activity. Both tend to give infested needles a speckled appearance.
