Hi everyone I am a new user and look forward to gaining knowledge and sharing mine. I do have a question on the pollination of R.O.Backhouse Martagon Lilies. I inadvertantly cut half of the stigma off on one flower as I was removing anthers. I went ahead and pollinated the cut stigma. Can you still pollinate the stigma if you do not have the tip? I am real curious. Thank you. Mudfoot
Normally, what happens, is that the pollen when placed on the top of the stigma, forms a pollen tube which it "digest" down through the style until it meets an egg in the ovary. I really do not know if the pollen still has this ability with the stigma missing . My guess is --- The pollen's no longer has the ability to properly carry out the pollination process. But that has never been asked before, let us know what happens. - Millet
