We're forecast for 105kph, which usually means a little higher. Because of our altitude, we can usually count on 10-20 kph more than the forecast, depending on wind direction. Unfortunately I have to be in Paris that night, which stinks. I had planned to leave dog Samantha for a neighbor to look in on, but that may not be a nice thing to do. She's not scared of storms, but even still.

Some are protected by other trees that can filter some of the sun, and hopefully the worst gusts of wind :

Others will probably lose most of their leaves (Ryusen, Hana matoi, Arakawa in the foreground) :

Well, it's the 31st October and after some rain today, I can honestly say it has rained every day here in Southern England in October 2023. Never seen it like this in all my long years living here.

I thought I would take a few more photos whilst I could when the sun did come out. Some small maples, some large.

Before storm CIARAN hits later today, I managed to take a few more to share. Fewer of my maples doing well this Autumn, due to many just turning brown and dropping their leaves. But 2024 will be differant, that's the fun thing about maples.....

No wind yet here, a shower of rain 10 minutes ago, and now blue sky !

A cutting from a friend, maybe some kind of "hime" :

Acer cappadocicum. Fodder for some kind of insect, perhaps leafcutter bees :

Those are among the best for the mix of colours on the leaves in this season :

A few remaining leaves of the well-named Acer elegantulum :

    Acer discolor :
    acer-discolor_231101a.jpg

The one I called "Shirpal" because I suspect it's a hybrid between shirasawanum and palmatum (I may be wrong!) :

'Koto hime' is still green :

    acerp-koto-hime_231101a.jpg

'Trompenburg' was in full sun :

    acerp-tromp_231101a.jpg

'(Peve) Starfish' was in the shade :
    acerp-starfish_231101a.jpg

    'Bihoo' :
    acerp-bihoo_231101a.jpg

All these were in full sun. Only the Acer mospessulanum, in the ground, in the background has not turned to autumn colours. no wonder, it's from the mediterranean area :

Hey @AlainK your Trompenburg looks very happy in full sun..I moved mine (1.5m) from 2hrs morning sun to a sunnier spot with 4 hours exposure, but very well sheltered and it really hasn’t been happy, really bad sun scorch! Moved Black Lace from and to the same location and that’s been very happy! Odd!!

Well, mine was OK last year. It's suffered more this year, but we had such a hot and dry weather, and it needs repotting too.

My trees survived the storm, although a lot of leaves fell. But some more decided to colour up this morning.

    Beautiful pics mates!

So did mine. Actually we only had a few gusts of wind here (about 80 km/hr)...
