I planted this maple tree 38 years ago. This spring it has very few leaves. There is lots of moss on the bark and white spots on the bark. Is it dying?

If this is a sugar maple these are having problems in the northeast US and perhaps adjacent Canada as well. Try searching the web for sugar maple decline etc.

Looks like a sugar maple trunk. Leaves could also be right, but try showing a picture of those.
