One of the advantages of joining the Maple Society is the quarterly newsletters. Before joining, I was under the impression that much of this would be "over the head" of the more casual maple enthusiast like myself. I was incorrect: There is plenty to enjoy for maple fans from a variety of backgrounds, including beginners. Here is a sample of the latest table of contents:

    The Weeping Acer Siebodlianum 'Seki-no-kegon'
    Growing Japanese maples as bonsai
Japanese Maples 4th edition book review
Acer maximowiczianum Miquel (1867): Nikko Maple
News From the North American Branch
The Maple Society North American Branch present the 2010 Conference Maples and Gardens Texas Style
    Threatened maple conservation
Winter Grafting maples - learning from the experts

If you have been on the fence about joining - jump over to the correct side. It's a lot of fun here!

I love the newsletter too, it's chock full of information that every maple person needs to know. I haven't had a chance to read the new one yet, but I did glance at the book review. (Since I haven't gotten around to buying the book yet). I know it's hard to review a Peter Gregory book in the newsletter, but frankly this could have been a little more substantive... The discussion on the forum here was, to my mind, somewhat more informative.
