Hi alex66, you have to apply to the Maple Society to register a new cultivar. There was a thread on this last year (January 2019) outlining registration of new cultivars. It's worth reading !!!

Hi Alex, there's a difference between a patent, and registering a cultivar. I don't know how to patent a cultivar, but you could ask someone who's done it, like Dick van der Maat did with 'Taylor'. I think you know Dick. Otherwise the cultivar registration isn't completely set up yet on the web site, we're working on it. In the mean time the registrar is supposed to be Ed, that is @NJACER. If you don't have his email you can PM him, or ask me for it on whatsapp or by email. I don't know if he's actually set up to register yet, though. -E
