I have a Japanese Maple and I saw this the other day.(see attached) Inside were bugs. I cleaned it out. I wonder what this is. Also on the trunks and branches of all my maples is this green moss like spotting. Any advise would be appreciated. Stephen McNutt
The old injury is well healed. You did the right thing getting the bugs out, otherwise it's fine. The spots in photo 2 look like lichen which is inoffensive.
