I am interested in planting Manglietia insignis in my backyard but would like to see a mature (or semi-mature) example of one. Is there one at the UBC Botanical Gardens or at VanDusen? I have checked with the City of Vancouver and they only have young examples.
Hello Joanne, Both UBC and VanDusen have examples of the species. UBC has a single plant, planted around 1990 in the David C. Lam Asian Garden. Its location is in the bed northwest of the large meadow with the creek running through it. VanDusen has five plants, the oldest two being planted around 1994 (the others in 1995, 1996 and 2000). One of the 1994 plants is in the Meconopsis Dell, the other in the Fern Dell. The 1995 and 1996 are in the Sino-Himalayan Garden. Best regards, Daniel
