Would you please advise me where I might find someone to analyze the possible use of herbicide on 2 birch trees that are now dying (and damage to an ornmenatl cherry). Our neighbour has admitted to packing the roots with salt, but the main trees (and nearby clematis) also appears to have received a direct spray of some sort that caused the leaves to curl and turn brown very quickly. Additionally, when we saw (and photographed) where they had dug a trench for the salt, we also noticed that they had in place a hollow tube where it appeared that they might have been adding a liquid more directly. A good third of the tree now appears to be dead. We are trying to save it through regular watering (it already had its deep root kelp fertilization this year), but it might be easier to do if we knew more fully what type of toxicity we are dealing with. I hope you are able to direct me to someone who may be able to help.
    Thanks,

Look for 'Consulting Arborist', 'Horticultural Consultant' etc. in telephone directory. Side note: in future, fertilize after sampling soil and having it analyzed; if any is indicated, use a granular product of appropriate formulation sprinkled on the surface only.

Many thanks, we have contacted a consulting arborist and he advises us to keep watering the trees well. With reference to the granular product, do you mean we should now be using sme granular fertilizer on the surface?

If a soil test indicates you need to be fertilizing anything on your site later, use a granular product, instead of spikes or a liquid.
