hello myname is marsh,I would like to know since Im new at this, can I make a vine or plant from a cutting? How old should the mother plant be? after I make the cutting do I plant in dirt, put in water? this is in referance to a concord grape plant, all of your help will be appreaciated.grape vinesare about 13 dollars each here and would like to make my own vines.thanks marsh....
The mother plant has only to be old enough to be pruned to produce growable cuttings. Look for 6mm to 10mm canes with 2 to 4 nodes. Smaller cuttings can be started but won't have the reserves to draw on. Two good sites for instructions: http://www.gardenhive.com/fruit/grapes/propagate/stem-cuttings/ How to Propagate Grape Vines. http://www.bunchgrapes.com/cuttings.html Cuttings Do your research now and find a source for cuttings, then go for it in the early spring.
