    Hi BS,

You don't say where in New York, your hardiness zone or which magnolia you have, but many are not hardy in colder zones. So, it would depend on several factors, but I suspect late frosts are killing the flower buds. Do you know which magnolia you have? Here's a zip code zone finder.

    Some magnolia growing info:

Other possibilities are it's planted too deep, too much mulch around the trunk or too thick on the ground, not enough water, too much water or not enough sun.

    Hello BS,
I had the same problem with my magnolis a couple years ago, someone told me to put triple phosphate around the roots. Happy to say that it worked for me I got flowers the last two years. I hope this will work for you.
    Good Luck,

Soils vary. Sample soil and have it tested before fertilizing. Be wary of high doses of phosphorus, which can produce a toxicity.
