Just acquired and planted this variety of Magnolia. After having great success last year with my Lilac on this web site. I would like greatly to carry on this path of learning .Thanks all involved . My magnolia : Is there any promoting of better flowering that may differ form my lilac shrub? Is my high acidic soil a problem for this variety? have heard it like medium acidity. What flaws are most common for these trees? I would like to achieve height & strength as quickly as i can? Should it be supported for long Will it flower better if not pruned to much. Should dead flowers be removed? Any info would be awesome folks Thank you Mark Bugden
Grow it well and have it grow up to flower heavily. Should have some flowers at garden center size (5 gal. and up). Seems prone to browning or blackening of flowers in this region, probably lilac blight (speaking of lilacs).
I've seen sulphur residue on magnolias newly delivered to garden centers early in the year. The local arboretum used to spray them during the winter as well.
