    Hi all,
Bringing back a post from 10 yrs ago, I have a Magnolia with major splits in the bark on the trunk and branches. The splits appeared this Spring. Photos attached. It gets pruned once a year but puts on a lot of foliage growth each year since we had a nearby Spruce tree removed. It also has a good sprinkler system providing water through the summer. The tree is at least 20yrs old. We are in Trail, BC - about zone 4.
Anybody got any ideas about the cause and what we can do?

Low winter temperatures, try using tree wrap.
