we have a magnolia tree that is not looking very good and needs help, it is about 30 ft high, the leaves are not looking healthy and at the foot of it's trunk the bark is turning black. We live in Southern Ca. Water 2 t0 3 times a week for 10 minutes. The leaves have started getting light green and some of the small branches have no leaves. Two years ago it had sap coming out of one of the branches but that stopped after a few weeks.

Maybe fungal or bacterial, honey fungus for instance. Not enough information here to say.

    Re: magnolia tree peoblem

Thank you-the leaves are lighter green with some yellow and the black bark isn't solid and is on one side of the base of the tree. I've been living here for a long time and the women who owns the house trims the tree every year-it drives me crazy. Could that be what's causing the problem? I looked up honey fungus and it doesn't really fit. I will look up fungal and bacterial. Thank you again and any further thoughts would be welcome.
