M. 'Charles Raffil' and others Our Charles Raffil, at our Magnolia evaluation garden in mt. Lehman http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=124887233&size=o Other candidates include anything on my flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/yesheh) or my cousin's (http://www.flickr.com/photos/magnolias) which are both mainly on our test garden, although last week I was at arboretum wespelaar in brussels, of which a few photos are listed here: 'Hot Lips' http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=135668949&size=o 'Bjov' http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=135733213&size=o 'Yellow Fever' http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=132923669&size=o As for licensing, they're under creative commons, which basically says that it'd be nice if you say I took them.... Sincerely, Adrian Reimer
Spellcheck: Magnolia campbellii 'Charles Raffil'. Raffil crossed the Himalayan M. campbellii and the Chinese M. campbellii mollicomata to produce an intermediate type. There is more than one cultivar belonging to the cross, the name Raffilii Group has been used to designate these.
sorry, I should change that on our proper labels too..... I heard through the rumor network that there is a white Charles Raffil? I think it was at Kew or from that area but from the original batch of Raffil seedlings.
'Charles Raffil' is a specific selection, another seedling should have its own different cultivar name. If one is being sold as 'White Charles Raffil' one would assume that was an attempt to cash in on the familiarity of 'Charles Raffil'. Not sure where such names fall under the current Code, might not be kosher.
