Looks like some sort of tree ?

    Can someone please identify this plant. It has been buried in a pot in the back yard for some time but can't remember what it is.

    It reminds me of a type of sumac, but I have one of those and the leaves are not quite the same pattern.

    A rowan Sorbus of some sort, probably European Rowan Sorbus aucuparia. Often bird-sown.

    Oh, of course Mt. Ash. Why didn't I twig on it? Perhaps it was the lack of berries that threw me off..

    Thanks very much for the tip.

    Pretty common where I lived as a kid growing up. They were on so many streets ..and a pesky tree to boot with all their berries falling on the cars and bird getting loaded on them.

    We'll really have to think twice where we plant it. Or rather IF we plant it :-)

    Effectively a weed species in this region, seeding out into uncleared land as well as popping up in gardens.
