Looks like a fern, but is it?

    The two photos are of different but similar plants. They each have a single stalk and fernlike leaves. One has a bloom.

    Does #1 smell like a carrot?

    Ooh...could it be Conium maculatum?

    #2 looks like a Sceptridium sp.

    I don't believe either of them are ferns. One hint - ferns don't bloom.

    Thanks to all for replying. I checked out images of sceptridium and botrychium and the plants I saw very much resemble them. They are growing in a wooded area near Annapolis, Maryland, USA.
