I purchased this plant about 2 years ago and it has grown so beautifully. Unfortunately, it came with no ID tag and I have no idea what it is. It seems to do well anywhere I put it, and is a very hardy plant. My mum and I even went to the library and tried to look it up in a few different books, but no luck. The following pictures are the original plant. My mum and I attempted to repot it and also took a few pieces out to start two new plants. That was when we discovered that the root system has bulbs. This isn't a flowering plant, as far as I can tell. (excuse the tin foil...I have a new cat who likes to dig)
See also my post at Plants are the Strangest People, which spends a lot of time on propagation: Stoner (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)
Mr_S, always worth a detour to PATSP. Great observations. Some *cycads are known for air-purifying effects. This might induce me to actually buy a Zamioculcus zamiifolia instead of propagate from seed as with my other *cycads. There are sites that will have first hand accounts of experimenting of the Ghanaian sort, too, but that still smacks of guano to me, too. *note: ZZ is an aroid, not a cycad. And it was totally my fault and not Mrsubjunctive's.
Ah, thanks, Togata. I keep forgetting ZZ is NOT a cycad. It walks like one, talks like one, but it's not. Steve Lucas to the rescue again.
Excellent article. Answers a lot of my questions on why the plants we split off from the original are doing nothing....lol But we are patient!!! I absolutely love this plant and will try the other methods of propagation mentioned. Thank you for providing the link!
