I wish I had a picture but will do my best to describe. I am looking for the name of this tree...
It looks to get about 6ft tall and has branches that hang down in a sort of umbrella effect. Also, the flowers are fluted and large but open up to be huge beautiful flowers that have maybe 5-7 petals on each bloom. The flower colors range from tree to tree, I have seen them as white pink and yellowish... Can you help?

YES!!! THANK YOU!!! I LOVE those and think they are so pretty. My grandmother had them in southern Louisiana and it makes me think of "old south" gardening, kind of like magnolia and hydrangea. Thank you again!

there is another one that is similar where the flower opens all the way up into a huge 5-7 petal flower. Do you know that one?

There are dozens (maybe hundreds) of cultivars so it's anybody's guess which one she has.
