I would love some suggestions for a corner, sunny site. Probably best if not over 5' tall but could be anything that would add year-round interest (or just August & September). Now that the yucca flowers are finished the intended spot beside the heather is looking pretty plain.
Classic companions for heathers are conifers. If the cotoneaster is one of the popular groundcover types with red berries, these fruits contrast well with spreading junipers producing silvery or bluish leaves. With these two kinds planted near one another, the fruits of the cotoneaster would end up being seen against the leaves of the juniper. If the heather is a reddish, purple or strong pink one it will also contrast well with the juniper's foliage color, otherwise if the heather is white (with a cotoneaster on the scene one might hope this is the case, as these often produce tomato red or orange fruits that would clash with the bluish reds of many popular heathers) then adding a juniper could give you a nice red, white and bluish/silvery trio. Being grayish the yucca leaves would also harmonize with those of a bluish juniper.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Juniper would be a good contrast. I have planted some Sedum 'Red Cauli' in the area and the plants work well in the grouping.
