Hi. I have been looking for this plant chimonathus praecox for a long time. I tried to order through local nurseries here in Nanaimo, vancouver island. So far no luck. Do you know where I can purchase this plant? This plant reminds me my home Japan so much. Help me out please. Yumiko
I was looking for one too, and according to the website of Piroche Plants in Pitt Meadows BC (www.pirocheplants.com/index.htm) if you look in their catalogue under deciduous shrubs, they have two varieties of Chimonanthus praecox. I haven't actually bought one from there yet but i hope they have it in stock. good luck!
Re: looking for chimonathus praecox Hello Yumiko, I live in Toronto ON. i am new to the garden forum and is also looking for Chimonanthus Praecox for my father, after a long search i think my best bet should be in B.C. The Piroche seems to only do wholesale. do you have any luck? thanks, shu lee
Piroche is currently shut down, I believe, or was last year. But the plant should be available somewhere, somehow. Your local nursery is probably the best place to ask; not a big box garden department but a real nursery or garden centre. They can check with their suppliers and bring one in for you, I would bet. The other option is to do an internet search for the plant (the latin name) and generally the names of some nurseries that sell it by mail order will come up. Otherwise, anyone who can figure out how to propagate it is welcome to come and get cuttings or seeds from mine! The seed pods should be forming now.
thanks for your info Karin, I check the biggest local nursery, no luck at all, basically Toronto is too cold for the plant and also too few people know about it therefore they have no interest in carry it. Through checking the name Chimonanthus praecox on the internet I found a guy in the U.S. selling it but because the regulation he won't sell it to canada. I will keep my eyes on the forum hopefully light will shine in soon.
I purchased one from Fraser Thimble Farms in B.C. a few years ago : http://www.thimblefarms.com/ It never flourishes here or looks like anything special , but it does survive outdoors .
