I have had a Hibiscus syriacus 'Red Heart' in my back garden for about 7 years and it has been a fabulous, trouble free plant which blooms profusely for about 6-8 weeks each August/Sept. Last summer I bought a standard H. syriacus 'Aphrodite' hoping for a similar show. This variety is supposed to have a long season because it is a sterile triploid. Unfortunately I have found it quite disappointing so far because its bloom season seems to be only about 2-3 weeks. Both plants are in a fair bit of shade so I don't think it is heat or sun that is causing Aphrodite's shorter season. It seems to just make a few buds and then stop, while the Red Heart still has lots of buds forming

Has anyone else had a good experience with Aphrodite? Does the bloom season extend as it gets more established? Any suggestions for other varieties with a long blooming season in the Vancouver area?
