Mandeville gardens or Southlands Nursery should order it in for you. I thought Hawaiian Botanicals in S. Surrey/Langley carried it ?
Not as hardy as the typical plant. Designated USDA 9 in books and local clumps I've noticed have in fact disappeared within a few years later.
I've seen it in White Rock and Ladner, but this winter may have completely annihilated any evidence of them....
I have both Arundo donax 'Versicolor', (aka 'Variegata') and also the regular green form. I've found both to be at least root hardy. Even this past winter these both types are fine but in need of grooming. In my experience, the green form is much faster growing. Variegated forms seem to wash out or lose the intensity of their coloring later in the growing season, and grow much slower and not as tall. Cheers, LPN.
I've had the green for years. Know of no persisting clumps of the variegated here. Only see big ones in California. Maybe later this season I will notice one here somewhere. It would be nice if it could be gotten to live.
B & T world seeds has 'Arundo donax v versicolor Variegata' among a few other cultivars/varieties: http://www.b-and-t-world-seeds.com/index.htm
