Catherine Creek Trail. April 27th, 2013. Columbia River Gorge. I am posting images form two different plants. They look different too me. Are they different species. Can you tell the species by the photos? Pictures 1 and 2 are the first plant. Picture 3 is the second.

Identification in some keys will be by fruit, though when flowering a combination of flower colour (sometimes misleading) and leaf morphology is used. The first plant can't be identified without any apparent leaves (at least not by me).

The second species looks closest to Lomatium laevigatum to me, though if someone wanted to dispute that, I could likely be swayed.

(later edit...) But I'm wrong about that, since there is a Catherine Creek cheat sheet (PDF), and it isn't on the list. Narrowing it down using the list, I'll then suggest Lomatium grayi for the second (which is what I thought originally before changing my mind... oh well).

Thanks for the cheat sheet. I have a few more to work through. That should help narrow things down.
