Little green leaves, new leaves purple, purple stems

    Here is another plant that I first saw in a garden on Bainbridge Island, but this time I did not learn the name.

    Today in Stanley Park, I saw what I think is the same thing. I originally thought it had opposite leaves in a single plane, but then the more I looked, the more I found branches with more leaves from the same point on the stem, more whorled than opposite, though they give the impression of almost being in the same plane. I didn't measure the leaves, but I think they're around 2cm long.

    I also thought that the branching was opposite, but then the second photo has me wondering about that. I can't really tell what's going on there.

    Lonicera nitida 'Red Tips' or similar variety.

    Thanks, Tyrlych. I am so surprised, but that will teach me to go looking at shrubs when they have no flowers or fruits. I see a photo with flowers, which I would have recognized as Lonicera.
