With the difficulty in now importing, it would be good for anyone in the U.K to share resources and maybe highlight anywhere where they find anything unusual.

I use Bartehlemys who do all their own grafting and supply specimen plants as well as one year grafts and anything in between.

I also found Purple Ghost at Garsons near Titchfield yesterday.

This is an excellent idea J.
I would like to add this one to the thread that does do mail order and in fact only mail order. It was found by my daughter and son in law when researching some more plants for their garden. It was a shame that they could not collect, as they live nearby. But they said the plants and maple were very healthy, but a little small if they had to be picky.

Here’s Barthelemys catalogue, not all cultivars are available every year and they will also have cultivars not listed.
    They do their own grafting.
The catalogue has not been updated and pricing is inaccurate.

    Terms of Business
    Nursery opening hours:
    Monday - Saturday 9am - 1pm / 2pm – 4.30pm
    CLOSED SUNDAYS
Mail orders are accepted on a payment with order basis only.
Grafted Varieties are dispatched 12 months of the year, subject to availability.
    Seedlings dispatched November-March.
In the unlikely event of a chosen variety being unavailable we shall substitute the nearest available, unless instructed otherwise.
All plants listed have been produced on the nursery.

One Year Grafted & Named Varieties
On the following pages are the varieties we offer as young plants. At the nursery we have considerable numbers of larger plants up to eight feet, although not all varieties in the larger sizes.
The size of the one year grafts when dispatched vary form 6 to 18 inches depending on variety. Some varieties will attain 30 inches in the first year.
Below is the key to the codes after each variety name:
    1 = 2-3ft 2 = 3-7ft 3 = 7-13ft 4 = 13-20ft 5 = 20-30ft
Mature height can seem alarming in some of the above, but it must be remembered that the maple is a fairly long lived tree which will grow quicker in the early years, and then slowly reach the mature height. As a guide you could assume that the tree will attain about half of the first figure in ten years.

@Jaybee63 that list is going to have a few salivating. All grafted himself. That is essential and especially now we have the silly import fees.

Their plants have a “completely” different look to what you find in the nurseries.
Naturally grown, mostly no tying into a stake, so bent, twisted, contorted, with the true shape you’d expect a maple to form.
So if you want something for a pond where the branching on a dissection cascades all to one side, this is your place.
Besides what they have on general display, they have tons of stock all over the place so it’s good to ask as they may have it tucked away

This one I spoke about on the other thread, but it should go here as well. I have very recently added it to the Maples Resources page, but I think it should go here for everyone to note.

    Miles Japanese Maples

It's a young business, but I get the impression Miles is going to be a great asset to maple enthusiasts over the coming years in the purchase of quality maples. He also does mail order.

Not hard to find in the sense of if you go there in the daytime no problems , i went there on a cold dark winters night , and lets just say the street lighting and road signing in that part of the country is diabolical it's like a land time as forgot way out in the sticks.
Won't have a problem in three weeks time though when i go back again in the daylight with a van !!!!!

So what’s the furthest someone has travelled to go on an Acer hunt?
For me, it’s 3.5bhours, but this was tied into a work trip.
Just to pick up an Acer, 2.5 hours each way.

Good morning J, not too far for me, just under a couple of hours to RHS Wisley and last year to Oxford a similar time.
I know Luke @Luke’s Maples has travelled a lot further.
I do remember reading a few years back that a couple spent their holidays touring to pick up maples they had researched. Sounded like fun, with wonderful souvenirs to come home with.
Last year A @sun travelled from Austria to Germany to pick up some lovely specimens for her garden. I hope she will see this thread and say what the distance was, but I do know it required an overnight stay. So more than two hours.
Also on the forum a member from the US ,who I cannot remember, travelled massive distances to pick up some trees. I think it was from Mr Maple.

You’re absolutely right Derek. I drove from here in Oxford (the south side) all the way up to pick up a Purple Ghost from Mark @ROEBUK. It was a good 3.5 hrs each way. We had a good chin wag whilst I was there though and I got home tired but not bit regretful. Unfortunately I had to sell the tree due to moving house, so someone else will be enjoying the fruits of my labour as I write this.
