Hello, does anyone know where information about patent and trade names for japanese maples can be found ? In particular which cultivars are protected from an unauthorized propagation.
Search the web using what naming you have already to get commercial or other sites mentioning any additional phrases that may be attached to the plant. Including any trademarks being claimed or registered trademarks, plant patents that may have been granted.
If it's for personal use, there is no problem, it's like copying a copyrighted CD to use in your car : not really legal, but who cares as long as it's not for commercial purpose ? I even suspect that some sell registered plants under a different name to avoid troubles.
