The link to these forums seems to have been removed from Home Page | UBC Botanical Garden. Is there is reason for this? Perhaps its absence is contributing to the low activity here.
It is a contributing factor, no doubt. The re-make of this site is what is killing it off, I think. Digital chlorosis.
On the Home Page you click Learn, from there Garden Advice and from there Forums. Re. the activity, it is not that bad, I suppose.
Thanks. I looked and looked but couldn't find it since I wasn't expecting it to be buried so deep. I thought it used to be accessible from a top-level drop-down.
As I mentioned in my second post in this thread, there is also a shortcut through Quick Links on the Home Page. To me, the approach looks logical.
What about a link to Botany Photo of the Day? That was mentioned in another thread, but this thread seems to be more about what we can't find. That's another that I wouldn't be able to guess what to click to get to it. Or am I just missing it and it was already put back?
Well, it used to be really easy when I was in charge of the whole site, 2 versions ago! But, there are plenty of things to compete with for attention on the home page of the site. Photo of the Day will return to the main page once it is up and running again, which I will be turning my attention to as soon as the interpretive signage project is out of my hair. As for switching to the new software, I'm comfortable with that decision. Not much more than 2 months after we made the switch, the old forums software company was making headlines in the IT security world for a serious hack: vBulletin password hack fuels fears of serious Internet-wide 0-day attacks Hackers tap vBulletin vulnerability to break into 27 million more accounts
