What surrendipity - I came across this Davidsonia issue from January, 2010 http://www.davidsonia.org/files/Davidsonia_20_1_A.pdf that has two wonderful articles: Since Nadia and I are always trying to figure out where we saw what, I made excel files from the info in the second article, which lists plants of interest on the paths and trails in the Asian Garden - one sorted by trail name and one sorted by plant name. I've attached those for anyone who's interested. View attachment UBCBG Trails with Plants of Interest.xls View attachment UBCBG Plants of Interest with Trail Name.xls I can't figure out how to sort an excel file on my mobile device, so I wanted the two files that I can reference when I'm in the garden. What I was really looking for was a copy of Gerald Straley's Trees of Vancouver for Nadia, which is out of print. I see that amazon.ca has it: [edited]You can, however, buy it as an ebook for $15.31 (these are all Canadian dollars), which I've just done, but that doesn't help Nadia, and I'm not giving up my copy.
Me? So I can do it quickly and read it on my phone from a file, without an internet connection. I made the data available - you're welcome to convert it to a database and figure out what Android app I'd need to be able to read it (without the internet connection).
Ron, one reason spreadsheets are used is that they are much easier to use than a database program. You can enter data in a spreadsheet easily and intuitively, but a database requires some effort to set up before you can use it. I use both Excel and Access, but I would never use Access for a simple table or array of data.
