    Thanks for the great success in my last call for help. Here's another found at around 1500 masl. Is there enough to suggest at least a genus?

    Going into this a bit more, it seems that V. nigrum is a more likely bet. A month later and I would have seen it in flower! Thanks Wendy and Silver Surfer.

    I am not sure that they can be identified further without the flowers.
    Veratrum leaves all look the same to me.

    I'm sure that you are right. What I saw (from the site that you shared) was that V. album is not recorded for the area of the Apennines where the plant was found. But V. nigrum is. Seeing the flower would provide the only concrete proof.

    Thanks Lila - I've just looked more closely at the original and can see that the leaf undersides are indeed hairy. I'd still like to see the flower!
