Hello, I would appreciate help in identifying this 8' tall lily in my Kingston, Washington garden. Is it a Lilium columbianum? Thanks!
I think l.columbianum leaves are in whorls, flowers are smaller and not usually so tall, so I think no.
I believe the presence of bulbils along the stems (the little black balls) indicate that it's "tiger lily" (Liliium lancifolium; L. tigrinum). L. columbianum does not have bulbils.
Possibly Lilium superbum, American turkscap lily? Tiger lily is only supposed to grow to 5ft but yeah, sure looks like a tiger lily (Lilium lancifolium).
L. superbum also lacks bulbils. (I meant to mention that bulbils are characteristic to L. lancifolium and its hybrids.)
