i have a lilac tree ,it is six years old and it has never had blooms it has lots of leaves but no blooms ? another question i understand there is perenial pansies ? and re geraniums are there double geraniums? thank you
Regarding your pansy question I planted some white pansies 2 years ago and they are still coming back, not sure whether they are seeding themselves but I am sure glad to see them, means spring is coming. I am positive on this maybe someone can chime in but I believe I have seen doubles in a specialty geranium (like martha washington series but dont quote me on that name iam not too sure on the facts) HTH you a little.
I suspect it depends on your climate. In many places that are cold in winter, people making cutting for each new year. Mine here are cut down each year and come back better than ever. Some are many years old. I have them both in pots and the garden. Liz
Is your lilac getting plenty of sun? I only ask because my ex, here in Maine, had the same question, and when I went to check out the reluctant tree, it turned out to be growing under an enormous hemlock. Actually it made a nice understory plant, lack of flowers notwithstanding.
Can you post a picture of your lilac tree, including what's growing around it? 8 years is old enough to bloom; maybe there's something else going on. There are absolutely double geraniums, and there are a lot of different cultivars as well. My favourite is the Himalayan Geranium (aka Lilac Cranesbill "Birch's Double") which is a true Geranium cultivar. However, the plants most people call "geraniums" are actually Pelargonium spp, and there are also some Pelargonium x hortorum hybrids sold as "fish geraniums" which are double-flowered. The "Martha Washington" Pelargoniums are doubles in a number of colour combinations, as is Pelargonium "Jazz." Pansies can be perennials - the one that springs to mind is Johnny Jump-ups (Viola pedunculata) but Viola "Major Primrose" is a more pansy-like member of the genus. Plus I'm a fan of the colour.
