Identification: Lichen? Fungus? Fractal?

    Two questions:

    1. Lichen? Fungus?

    2. The pattern is fractal, like a river drainage seen from space. Has anyone done simulation modeling of growth patterns like this?

    I should have included a size reference in the photo. The "tallest" one is about 3 cm. On limestone.
