Robert Hawkesworth FRPS made following comments: 'For many years, until quite recently, ‘Leopard’ Orchid was considered a hybrid between Southern Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza praetermissa) and Common Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii.) This is now considered erroneous and until molecular analysis shows otherwise it is usually given as Dactylorhiza praetermissa forma junialis'. In Great Britain it has quite a southern distribution. http://www.bioimages.org.uk/html/R151094.HTM The most unusual point is that it was photographed in the E. Riding and Robert Hawkesworth seen it in South Wales on the dunes at Kenfig. It has ring markings on its leaves hence leopard name.
