In my large rhubarb patch I have a few leaves that are showing signs of leaf spot (ascochyta). If I see any leaves developing these spots I naturally pull them off the plant in the patch. I am wondering if I should compost the leaves that have yellow spots or should I place them in the garbage. I am concerned about any fungus/disease in my compost transferring the next time I use the compost on other plants or vegs. Any advice is welcome. dt

I'd burn them, myself, or put them out in the trash.

I have just discovered the same. Is removing and throwing out affected leaves enough to stop the infection? I’ve never fertilized. Can that help?

hi, my original post was back in 2008 and I still have the same problems on my rhubarb. I heavily Compost the plant for the wi there dormancy and I may use a granular fertilizer as well a balanced one in the spring. I still get the diseases. I do not compost any leaves but send them away in my green waitsaste bin. And when I’m picking rhubarb for myself or to give away I always pick the ones that are showing white circles or little red spots on the leaves. It is safe to eat the stalks, even though you may have some leaf spot.
