Hi maple lovers, did you ever notice that your maple buds stay alive but dominate all year?

I have this Aureum for the third year and in spring only 50% of buds awake. It was the same last year. Those that stay dominated will eventually die in winter

    Is this normal ?

Good morning @lcc you say you have had it three years. Is it still in the same soil mix?
I re pot every two years sometimes three. But the smaller pots definitely two.
Those branches where the buds are still dormant will probably fail sooner rather than later.
So IMO I would slip pot it into a good free draining maple compost mix.
Place in a shaded area in the afternoons, water and wait.

90%yes and early this year I repotted it into a slightly larger pot and add a little new compost

the new roots start growing already. Maybe I shall unpack the roots at the bottom?

although I have done this multiple times in the past for camellias and rhododendrons, it is still scary. Hope this aureum can survive the damage! It is the most expensive tree I own
