I have a large 5 year old lavender. I believe it's 'Buena Vista". Every spring for the past few years, the flower stems burn when we get our first day of hot sunshine. Previously, I thought it was caused by unseasonably warm weather while the stems were tender, but it was only 82 degrees this week. It's worse than other years--about half of my flower heads are bent over a few inches below the flower. The stem then turns brown at the bend as if someone burned it with a match. I thought it could be that there wasn't enough water stored in the stems, but after the record June rainfall we've had, I don't think that is the case. Lavender shouldn't need supplemental water this early! I have watered it though, and I continue to lose the flowers. Has this happened to your lavender? Could it be because the lavender is getting old, or maybe it's not getting enough water or getting too much?
