I have contacted two qualified people that are arborists but I have two different opinions. The question is: Should the laurel hedge be trimmed now or late July August?

    Thanks Marie

Can't find any info on when is best to prune, but I doubt it matters too much. When pruning, cut each shoot separately, don't use shears as cut leaves look less attractive.

As these are fairly vigorous in our climate, the suggestion to prune in the summer was likely based on the sensible notion that if you prune now, you will stimulate a lot of new growth that will likely grow back to where it was in fairly short order, whereas one pruned later will not see such a vigorous growth response (being much later in the growing season) and will not have time to completely re-grow by Fall, and so will stay compact for longer.
