We are putting in a laurel hedge - 2ft laurels - and are receiving different advice as to the spacing between each. What is considered the best spacing for such a fast growing plant? Do you have any advice as to the best soil mixture that we can use? Thanks.

If you are planning to clip then space as wide as finished hedge will be deep. If hedge is to be 3' deep (distance from front to back), then space plants 3' apart. Plant in existing soil, without amendments. Mulch after planting. Fertilize if indicated by soil test.

Ours were spaced 15 to 18 feet apart, since the hedge was allowed to grow to about 25 feet high and 20 feet wide.

I don't think I'd space them any closer than 3' for a small short hedge.

My main gripe with them, in some yards, are the seedlings from the fruit. In a bitsy yard, the weed thing seems inconsequential.
