I have a large fir tree in the front of my house that has been there for at least thirty years. The tree is planted approximately thirty feet from my house and is about forty to fifty feet high. Some of the roots are starting to appear on the top of my lawn and also on some of my neighbors lawn.My neighbor wants me to cut it down as she is afraid the roots will damage her foundation or sewer lines. I was told that a Fir Tree's roots would not cause that kind of damage.I would like someone's advice about what I can do. I really don't want to cut the tree down as I love birds and they love nesting in the tree. It also makes a great privacy screen from the street when out on my balcony. Any advise would be appreciated.

Have an ISA Certified Arborist take a look. Certification is indicated in their advertizing.
