In The Garden: Landscape shrub with pink flowers

What might this bush be?

It had bright pink flowers when I took the photo June 16:

It brings to mind Japanese Spirea. Difficult for me to be sure without clearer pictures.

 

Could it be Centrantus ruber - Red Valerian?

 

The leaves in OP's pics seem to be alternate, although it is veeery difficult to see. This alone would exclude Red Valerian as possible id.

 

That is an herbaceous plant with conical flower heads and larger, simpler leaves. This is the Spiraea japonica that was first suggested.

The groundskeeper cut it back. (Is the term shear, shore, or something else?). Do spirea japonica do well when cut back?

Annual pruning of established specimens to 4-5 in. from the ground right before new growth starts in spring is recommended.
