My kumquats are round, very small (between the size of hominy & my thumbnail), & will not turn orange. Is there a way to produce a little bigger fruit & why won't the fruit turn orange? The bush produces many fruit several times a year & is about 4 feet tall so far. I planted it a year ago & it was already producing fruit when I bought it at Walmart. It has grown about a foot in the last year. I also have a Meyer lemon that had 3 immature fruits on it when I bought & planted it, but the fruit fell off with the wind. I have never had the fruit grow bigger than a golf ball before it falls off, unripened. What causes this? This has happens every time it gets windy out, & it is not very strong wind. They simply fall off with a breeze.
The trees may have a potassium deficiency. From A Guide to Citrus Nutritional Deficiency and Toxicity Identification,
Here is another document that may be of interest in case the deficiency is caused by calcareous soil rather than an actual shortage of potassium: Citrus Fertilizer Management on Calcareous Soils.
