My kumquat tree, variety unknown, lives in a very large pot, get lots of sun, water feeding, etc.. Has always rewarded me with a huge harvest. This spring I notice that many of the leaves are curling. Not all the leaves and not the very newest leaves. I see no sign of aphids, whitefly, scale.

The tree has been in the pot for several years (7?) I wonder if it needs to be repotted. Another kumquat, different variety) lives in the same size pot. It is doing fine. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    wiesgyz

My guess would be if it hasn't been repotted in 7 yrs that the soil might have become compact and not allowing proper drainage. There is a citrus news group with more knowledgeable ppl than me. http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=202
Few questions.. are the leaves discolored at all? any leaf drop? do you have any photos?

    Thanks Gina.

Things are looking better now but I think repotting is a good idea and I will do that as soon as I have the muscle power here. I can post some photos soon. Mycamera is not with me.

No leaf drop. No discolored leaves.

no leaf drop and no discolored leaves is good..
If the leaves turn yellow and start dropping that means it might have a problem..
If it has any more problems post over in the citrus forum. There are some great citrus minds hang out there now and then..

Not sure why this thread was not placed in the Citrus
forum but no matter. We can see Citrus with curled
leaves in the early Spring in some nurseries and when
the new growth comes out the leaves are fine. We
purchased a W. Murcott Mandarin from a mass
merchandizer nursery in April in which most of the
older leaves on the tree were curled under to some
degree. I was not worried about that as I knew what
caused it was lack of water during a brief cold snap
along with no frost protection. The leaves were not
overly discolored but were irregularly shaped. Since
then with regular waterings the Spring flush of new
growth and all successive new growth on our tree
has been fine and yes, the older misshapen leaves
    are still on the tree.

7 years being in the same pot is not such a big deal for
many Citrus but not giving the tree new soil in that time
span is a big deal. Depending on the size of the pot and
if you want to continue on leaving your tree in the same
sized pot or not you may want to lift the tree out of the
pot sometime and give it new potting soil at the bottom
and sides of the pot. Your Kumquat will thank you for it.
